Manage system icons in Windows Vista

By default, Windows Vista (and other versions of Windows) always shows some icons in the system tray like clock, volume control etc. If you do not want them to appear in the system tray, then you can choose to do so. Here is how :

  1. Right click anywhere on the taskbar and select Properties from the menu

  2. In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window, select the Notification tab.
  3. Under the System Icons section, uncheck the icons you do not want to appear in the system tray.

  4. Click OK button to save the settings.

The Power icon appears only on laptop computers which operate on battery power or desktop computers which are connected to the power source through a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
