Create a shortcut for hibernating computer in Windows 7

Windows 7 allows you to hibernate the computer. Putting your computer in the hibernation mode saves power and lets you quickly resume back to Windows exactly as your left it when hibernating. Usually, you have to click on Start Menu and then choose option for hibernating the computer. But you can also create a shortcut right on your Desktop to hibernate your computer. This is how :

  1. Right click anywhere in an empty area on your Desktop and select New → Shortcut as shown,

  2. In the Create Shortcut wizard, type shutdown -h as the location of the item. Click Next to continue.

  3. Type Hibernate Computer as the name of the new shortcut. Click Finish to create the shortcut.

  4. Now whenever you want, you can double-click on this shortcut to hibernate Windows quickly.

Note : You must have administrator level credentials to hibernate the computer. If you are a standard user, then you cannot hibernate the computer.
