Disable Tracking by Web Sites in Firefox 4

Many web sites show content borrowed from other third party sites like advertisements, counters, videos and maps etc. Often these third party sites track the behavior of the visitors by using methods like placing a cookie in user’s computer. The tracking of a visitor may reveal that person’s internet browsing habits which is then used in showing targeted content. If you do not like this tracking business, you can opt out from being tracked in Firefox 4. Here is how :

  1. Run Firefox web browser.
  2. Click on the orange colored Firefox box on the top-left and select Firefox → Options → Options

    Options dialog in Firefox 4

  3. In the Options window, select the Advanced → General tab.
  4. Then check the checkbox labeled Tell websites I do not want to be tracked.

Enable Do not track in Firefox 4

  5. Click OK to save the settings.

Please note that checking this box will tell websites that you wish to opt-out of tracking by advertisers and other third-parties. Though honoring this setting is voluntary — a third party web site may or may not respect it.
