Automatically Clean Junk Files Using Cleano in Windows 7

As you already know, Windows 7 accumulates a lot of junk files after some time of use. These junk files should be cleaned regularly for the optimum performance of Windows 7. Though Windows 7 comes with a Disk Cleanup utility, using which you can clean some of the junk files, but it cannot clean various types of files like Prefetch files. Fortunately, there is a free third party tool called Cleano which is able to can clean many more types of junk files in Windows. You can also set Cleano to automatically clean temporary files at the system log on or log off. Here is how :

  1. Download free Cleano from http://zeroideas.net/Cleano/Menu.html. Cleano is available for download in a ZIP archive. The download is a mere 185 kilobytes. You can extract Cleano.exe from this ZIP file using a free archiver tool like 7-Zip. Then right-click on Cleano.exe and choose Run as administrator from the right-click context menu.

  2. The main Cleano window shows a list of things you may want to clean. You can check all of them. You can also click on the Manage button to add a custom folder. All the files inside this custom folder shall be cleaned. If you click once on the RBin it will set to clean all the files inside your Recycle Bin; click on this button again, to turn this setting off. At this point, you can clean all the junk files (as per selected options) by clicking on the Clean Now button.

  3. To set the Cleano service to start at every Windows logon, click on the Service button. In the window that pops-up, you can click on the Start Cleano Service on Log In to auto-start the Cleano service at Windows logon. Then you can choose if you want to auto-clean at each log on, log off etc. You can also choose whether to display cleaning process or silently clean etc. Personally, I like the Clean on Log off option to auto-clean every time I shut down Windows. Click on the OK button to save the settings.

  4. Now click on the downward arrow button next to the Service and choose Save Options to save the settings. Now you are all set to automatically clean the selected junk files on every Windows logon or log off.
