Resize Any Window to Pre-defined Size with Sizer

Sometimes when you play videos using your favorite media player (I personally prefer VideoLAN Media Player), you have to resize the video window to make it larger. Usually, you can click and drag a corner of the window in order to resize it and make it large. But what if you want to resize a window to an exact pre-defined size. Windows itself does not offer any way to perform this kind of task but you can use freeware application Sizer to do this. Sizer is a free software which can be used to resize any window to an exact, pre-defined size.

Resizing a window to some preset dimensions is extremely useful when designing web pages, as it allows you to see how the page will look when viewed at a smaller size. The utility is also handy when compiling screen-shots for documentation, using Sizer allows you to easily maintain the same window size across screen grabs. For example, I often have to resize webpages to fit in a screenshot for this website. Sizer can be helpful in these different ways.

You can download it from the brianapps website. It is available as a Windows installer package or as a zipped archive. I personally chose the zipped archive as it does not need to be installed and can be just extracted and used. The download size of the zip archive is a mere 16 kilobytes. After you have run it and its icon is visible in the notification area (system tray), then you are ready to use it. Just right click on the bottom-right corner of any resizable window and select a pre-set dimension from the pop-up menu. You can also choose the resizing options from the system menu of any window (just click on the icon on the top-left corner of the window) as shown below :

This would resize the window to the selected size. By default three sizes 640×480, 800×600 and 1024×768 are shown. But you can also add your own custom sizes from the Sizer options. To open the configuration window for Sizer, just right-click on the notification area icon for Sizer and choose Configure Sizer from the context menu as shown.

This would open the Sizer Configuration window where you can add new size sets. Typically you have to put in a description, width and height (both in pixels). You can also choose to move a window to a specific position if you want. Then just click on the Add button to add this new entry. Not to mention, that the Delete button obviously removes an already added entry from the list. You can also choose to toggle other options like displaying resizing options in the system menu, showing notification area icon etc.
