Instagram is a photo sharing program for iPhone, iPad and Android. You can take a picture, apply various kinds of photo effects using Instagram and then share your photo on multiple social sites like facebook, twitter and more. Until now you had to have a smartphone like iPhone or one running on Android to access and use Instagram services. But now you can access and use Instagram right from your Chrome web browser using the Instagram for Chrome add-on.
Instagram for Chrome is an extension for the Google Chrome web browser. You can use it to browse your feed, your friends’ feed, like photos, comment on them and more. This extension is designed to make it look like the orginal Instagram application that you would find in a smartphone. It uses Instagram API to access your Instagram account. You can download and install this extension from its Google Web Store webpage.
After the installation of Instagram for Chrome extension, you would see the Instagram icon in the top-right corner of the Chrome browser, next to the omnibar (location bar). You can click on this Instagram icon to login to your Instagram account. When you click on this icon, a new tab would open where you can enter your Instagram credentials as shown below.
You would have to authorize the Instagram for Chrome extension to access your basic information (profile information, photos, friend lists etc.), to allow it to comment and like photos and follow or unfollow users on Instagram. Once you have authorized this extension, you can start using Instagram from your Chrome web browser. Just click on the Instagram icon in the Chrome toolbar and it would show a popup window which looks similar to the Android App for Instragram. Here you can browse your and your friends’ photo feed, comment and like on these photos and more.
The Instagram for Chrome extension brings the popular Instagram app to your desktop PC. Using it, you can browse through your friends’ photo feeds, comment on their uploaded photos and like them. The only feature not present in it is that you are not allowed to upload photos to your Instagram account. This is because Instagram prohibits uploading photos in their API, therefore effectively disabling third party apps and extensions to upload photos.
