Most of the Gmail users do not use an email client like Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook to check their email messages regularly. Nearly all of us just check the Gmail webmail site for new email messages. If we could see the new messages notifications right inside the web browser that we use everyday, then it would be much more convenient. The Gmail Notifier extension for Firefox does exactly that. It shows new email notifications for your Gmail account in the Firefox toolbar. It supports checking email messages from multiple Gmail accounts.
You can download and install the Gmail Notifier extension from the Mozilla add-on website. The extension is restartless, so you do not have to restart the browser after installing this extension. The nice thing about the Gmail Notifier extension is that it does not store your username or password for your Gmail account. It just uses the Gmail accounts that you have already signed-in to in Firefox browser. Because Gmail allows you to sign-in to multiple accounts at the same time, Gmail Notifier can check email messages from all the Gmail accounts that you have signed-in to. To use the extension, just press the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the Gmail icon in the toolbar. This would refresh all your Gmail accounts in the Gmail Notifier and it would display unread email messages count in the notification message.
If you want to open the Gmail webmail site for an email account, then right-click on the Gmail Notifier icon in the toolbar and select an email account to be opened. If you have only one Gmail account, then you can just click on the Gmail Notifier icon to open that Gmail account – you do not have to right-click and select the email address.
In the options for Gmail Notifier, you can set the time interval for checking your Gmail account for new email messages (by default, the time period is 15 seconds). If you do not want to check emails so often, then you can change the time interval to 5 minutes (300 seconds). But if you receive only a few emails everyday, then you can make the time interval to 3600 seconds (1 hour). There are other options you can set like displaying of the desktop notification, playing of the alert sound when new email messages are received, sorting of the multiple Gmail accounts alphabetically, etc.
The Gmail Notifier extension is a very helpful extension for all the Firefox users. It notifies you of new email messages received in your multiple Gmail accounts. This way you do not have to load the Gmail website every time you have to check for new email messages. This extension check for new messages every few seconds, so you will not miss any important emails even if you are on a different website.
