The Internet today is full of malicious websites — phishing sites, sites with drive-by-downloads, sites with fake anti-virus software which are actually malware and many more different types of attack sites. You have to be extremely useful when browsing the Internet. It would be nice if you could check whether a web site is safe, before you can visit it. This is where AVG Threat Labs comes in — it lets you check if a web site or webpage is safe to visit and see if it can cause any harm to your computer.
AVG Threat Labs is a security tool that offers the same kind of pre-click analysis as AVG’s LinkScanner real-time surf and search technology, though at a far more comprehensive level. AVG Threat Labs is a fast and easy route to website security, offering quick search functionality with its big search URL address box, as well as clear and comprehensive website security reports presented in a simple-to-follow graphical format.
Using the AVG Threat Labs for checking if a website is safe to visit is a piece of cake. Just visit the AVG Threat Labs web site in your web browser browser. Then enter the URL of a website you want to check for different kinds of security problems. In the following example, I entered http://www.trishtech.com/ in the URL field.
After entering the URL, click on the big orange Check button in the right side of the URL field of AVG Threat Labs. In a few seconds, you would get the 30-day security report for the entered report. For the URL http://www.trishtech.com/ I got this report :
If a site is safe (like in the above screen-shot), you would see the green checkmark. If the site is unsafe, you would see a big red exclamation mark. You would also see the compromised web pages and the types of threats found on the website (like malware and trojans). The following is the site report for a known unsafe website spycar.org :
If you click on Show more about threat activity, then you would find detailed site analysis report about types of malware, the compromised webpages, linked exploit websites, timeline of the detections, the world map from where the detections were reported first and much more.
The AVG Threat Labs is a very good web site security analysis tool which is very helpful in keeping you safe. Compared to other similar tools from other security vendors, the AVG Threat Labs is much more advanced and gives more detailed and easy to read site analysis reports. This is not only great for the website visitors as they can check if a website is safe to visit, but also for the site owners who can easily check the site analysis and keep their websites safer and secure.
