HitmanPro is a second opinion malware detection and removal tool. It gives you a second opinion about the possible infections on your PC that your regular antivirus is not able to detect. It is similar to the situation when your regular doctor is not able to diagnose your medical conditions properly, then you go and see another doctor for a second opinion. You can use it alongside your regular antivirus software. It uses the cloud based malware detection technology from the antivirus software leaders like Kaspersky, Bitdefender and Emsisoft.
You can download HitmanPro from the Surfright software website. The program is available in form of a standalone portable application. The download is less than 10 megabytes and you can run it without installing anything on your PC. When the HitmanPro window is opened, you can click on the Next button to start the scanning of your PC for possible infection.
But before you begin the scanning of your system, you may want to change the settings of how the scanning is performed. To open the settings, you can click on the Settings button. In the Settings window, you can choose whether you want to upload unknown suspicious files to the cloud, scan for malware remnants, scan for PUPs etc. You can also schedule a regular daily scan of your PC and more. For most of the users, the default settings work very well.
It scans your PC for possible threats including tracking cookies, checks files, uploads unknown suspicious files to the cloud and then classifies the files. The whole process takes less than 2-3 minutes. At the end of the scan and classification of the found threats, it shows you a list of the detected threats. All the threats are pre-selected to be deleted or quarantined. All you have to do is click on the Next button to get rid of the found threats. You have to register for a 30-day free license in order to remove the threats.
However, if no threat is detected, it shows a message that no threats were found. For easy identification, it shows a blue colored window when it does not find any threats on your system, while it displays a bright red window if it detects any possible threats on your PC.
HitmanPro is a nice and portable tool to quickly detect any possible malware that may have slipped under the radar of your regular antivirus product. But it sometimes gives false positives about some less known programs. For example, it flagged a program that I have made myself as a trojan. Nevertheless, it is a good tool to have that can help keeping your system clean and free of trojans, malware and rootkits.
