Everywhere you go, whether it is your office, coffee shop, restaurant, train or park, there are people who find pleasure in snooping into your computer screen and see what we are doing. And some of them are not even ashamed of it. What you can do to prevent such people from looking at your screen is to lock your screen with a free software called ScreenBlur. This is specially useful at work. Through this, you can lock your screen and walk away from your table for a few seconds to get a cup of coffee and nobody would be able to access your PC or see what you have been doing in it, behind your back.

You can download ScreenBlur program from the InDeep software website. The program is completely portable and standalone application. It can be run on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. You can download the ZIP archive, extract the files to a folder and run ScreenBlur.exe from there. It asks you to choose the fonts for application and desktop lock screen when it launches for the first time. In the next step, it shows the settings window where you are asked to set the desktop lock password.

In the Settings window, you can also choose to start the application automatically at Windows start, lock computer automatically when it has been idle for some time (default is 1 minute), choose a hotkey to enable the screen lock, automatically enter the sleep mode after 10 minutes of screen lock, disable mouse & keyboard for any other application but ScreenBlur and many more.

After you have set the password and selected the settings to your taste, you can test the screen lock feature by right-clicking on the system tray icon of ScreenBlur and selecting LockScreen. You can also use one of the hotkeys, if you have set them in the settings, to lock the screen. When the screen is locked your mouse and keyboard input does not work for any application. You cannot even press the Alt + Tab switcher for switching to different application. To unlock your screen, just type the password and it will be unlocked. There is no textfield to type the password and you do not have to press Enter after typing password.

ScreenBlur is a very small, portable and easy-to-use application that can be used to lock your screen on a casual basis. The difference between Windows Lock and ScreenBlur is that the latter shows the screen contents in a blurred fashion behind the lock screen and it can be used even when you do not have a Windows user account on the computer you are presently working.
