How to Create a WiFi Hotspot with Your Computer

A WiFi hotspot is a wireless network that offers internet access through a wireless local area network (WLAN). Usually you have to buy a WiFi router to create your own WiFi hotspot in your home or office. Even though these WiFi routers are pretty cheap, but why waste money when you have WiFi capable laptop or computer? If you have a working internet connection of any type and a WiFi capable computer (either in-built WiFi adapter or through an add-on WiFi adapter), then you are all equipped to create your own WiFi hotspot.

First of all, you have to download the mHotspot application and install it in your Windows PC. The application is designed using the .NET 3.5 and so you have to have it installed beforehand. This software works only in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

After you have attached your USB WiFi adapter to you PC or switched on the WiFi in it, you can launch mHotspot by double-clicking on the mHotspot desktop shortcut. In the mHotspot window, you will have to enter a hotspot name, the password (make sure you use a strong password), choose an internet source (like your ethernet connection) and choose the maximum number of clients who can connect  to your hotspot.

After this, you can click on the Start Hotspot button in order to start your new hotspot. You would see some data transfer as your WiFi LED blinks. A small popup message shows up in the Windows system tray to inform you that hotspot has been started.

Now you can connect your smartphones, laptops, tablets and other WiFi capable devices to this hotspot. The connection is visible in your device with your selected hotspot name, you can select it to connect and then enter the password that you entered in the mHotspot window.

At any later time, when you no longer need the WiFi hotspot, you can click on the Stop Hotspot button to stop the WiFi hotspot button.

Conclusion: It is very easy to create a WiFi hotspot to share your internet connection with other devices in your home or office. All it requires is a WiFi adapter and mHotspot software. If you already have a WiFi router, then you can create a soft-hotspot to act as a repeater to extend the WiFi hotspot range.
