On your desktop computer running Windows, if you have to find out the current time and date, then you can look in the system tray near the bottom right corner of the desktop screen. But what if you want to know about the current weather? Windows offers no such service to display the current weather of your location, but you can use a third party application Weather Watcher to see the present weather conditions right in the system tray of your Windows desktop. In addition to the current temperature, it also shows the weather condition, UV radiation level, barometer level, humidity, wind and visibility among others.
Weather Watcher is a Windows application and comes in form of a setup installer. After the installation, it places an icon in the Windows system tray. But before it can fetch any weather data from the internet, you have specify a city or location for which weather has to be shown. You can do so by open the Weather Watcher options either by clicking on the Options button in the main window or by right-clicking on the system tray icon and selecting Options from the right-click menu.
In the Options window, you can click on the Add City button under the Active City section. You have to type in the name of your city and it will search for the possible locations from which you can select your city. If you live inside the USA, then you can also type in the ZIP codes. There are many other settings in the Options window, like choosing what to be displayed in the system tray tooltips, whether show temperature in system tray or both temperature and current weather condition, choose skins, select wallpapers and more.
Once you have selected a city, close the Options window by clicking on the OK button and come back to the main window. In the main Weather Watcher window you have to click on the Update button, before it fetches the current weather data and forecast for the city you have added. After the update, you can see temperature, feels-like temperature, UV index, dew point, visibility, humidity and two days forecast in the main window.
You can minimize the main Weather Watcher window, but it still keeps running in the background and the current temperature is displayed in the system tray. You can click on this system tray icon to see a small weather information window any time. What items are going to be displayed in this tooltip window, can be configured in the Weather Watcher options.
Conclusion: Weather Watch application adds the current weather and weather forecast feature to the Windows system tray, so that you can easily know about current temperature and other weather conditions just by looking at the system tray.
