More and more people are using WhatsApp everyday to connect with their friends and colleagues and share pictures, videos and text messages with them. This is why WhatsApp is more often comes pre-installed in many of the Android based smartphones. WhatsApp uses your mobile phone’s phone number to create a unique account for you so that you can have only one account at a time. But what if you decide to change the mobile number or buy a new SIM card later? In such cases, WhatsApp offers you to port your older account to your new mobile number easily.
Here is how you can quickly switch the mobile number in your WhatsApp account on Android:
- First of all you have to open the WhatsApp messenger client in Android. Now press the menu button on your Android phone or tap on the menu icon on the top that looks like three dots. Select Settings from the menu that pops up.
- In the settings screen it will show a list of all the settings that you can use to configure WhatsApp messenger app. You have to tap on Account from this list.
- On the Account screen that shows up, you have to tap on the Change Number option. This will show another screen with a little bit information on what will happen when you change the mobile number. On the next screen, you can enter your old mobile number and the new mobile numbers along with the country codes.
- Now you can tap on Done on the top. This will result in a SMS being sent for number confirmation after which the number is changed.
Before changing the mobile number, you should make sure that you have installed the WhatsApp client on the new mobile phone (if you are also switching the mobile phones) and that the new mobile number is fully working and is able to receive the text messages.
