How to Disable WAP Push Messages in Android

Recently I started to receive many WAP push messages on my Android smartphone everyday. Most of these messages were unwanted content that I did not really ask for. I never subscribed for any of these messages as far as I remember and it was very annoying to see them pop up in my mobile phone every now and them. So after some searching through my Android smartphone’s settings, I figured out a simple way to disable them. If you are also receiving number of unwanted WAP push messages on your Android device, then you can use these simple instructions.

Disable WAP Push Message in Android

Note: If you are using a text message app other than the stock Android messaging app, then these instructions might not work for your Android device.

Here is how you can disable the WAP push messages in Android:

  1. On the home screen of your Android device, touch the messaging icon displayed near the lower edge of the screen. This is usually used for viewing the SMS text messages that you receive on your phone.
  2. On the messaging screen, touch the menu button (three vertical dots) to open the messaging menu. From this menu you have to select Settings to open the settings related to the messaging app.Disable WAP Push Message in Android
  3. On the Settings screen, it will display different categories of settings that you can configure, e.g., notifications, text messages, multimedia messages and so on. You have to select General settings from the list displayed.
  4. On the General settings screen, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and uncheck the checkbox labeled Enable WAP PUSH under the category Service Message Setting. This will effectively disable all types of WAP Push messages on your Android device.Disable WAP PUSH Messages in Android

Conclusion: Although WAP PUSH messages are usually very useful and most of the times are sent in response to the user requests, but sometimes they can become annoyances when sent in bulk everyday in form of unwanted content. Fortunately, you can easily block then in your Android device without much trouble.

  1. I’m using Huawei honor 7c and I noticed that there’s no way to delete recent contacts that you texted on messaging app. Whenever you write a message the recent contacted list is showing up. How can we delete it or permanently disable it?

  2. running ATT LG phone. with Android 7. I went to Settings under Messaging and cannot find anything about WAP anywhere. Anyone know how I can find WAP setting so I can turn it off to stop these WAP messages that began just yesterday?

  3. If you can’t find the settings in SMS app. In some mobiles you can do so by going to
    mobile settings–>system apps –>messaging–>additional settings

    Then turn off wap push

  7. thank you for this. thing is i never gave them permission it smelled fishy. never the less i every day have an annoying “wap push needs permission ” message and an annoying other one cos i dont want app working in back ground. they never go it is so bad! also facebook amazone Spotify sre hard wired and i do not like this at all . they are pestering me big time. i guess they all have contract toghether and expect users to bend over backword for them . waste of time space patience. android is abusing users . 80% of my phone memory and updates aint for me but for them to play with make money stealling datas to make more work for people… the wrong way. type of work wich purpous is pestering me again trying to sell stuff to use my time. well what can i do i paid for the phone and i want to spank them in dome epic way. maybe thats why i cant get in touch with them. phone companys are to blame too.

  8. I have a Samsung Note 4, and the general settings screen you last displayed….mine looks similar to that, but the cell broadcast settings are no where to be found under this. Any other ideas where I can find it? Thanks for any help as this is driving me crazy, getting these messages a few times a day, and now my camera gallery folder is gone, and all my photos are lost. Not sure if its connected or not to this issue.
