Prevent CD/DVD/Blueray from Playing Automatically in Windows 10

When you insert a DVD movie in the DVD drive of your Windows 10 PC, it asks you to choose an action and if you choose to play with a media player application, it will become the default action to be taken when DVD disks are detected. So next time you insert a DVD movie into your PC, it will start to play automatically. This is very convenient for most of the people who use their computers as media stations. But for some of us, it can be annoying to see the DVD disk spinning at full speed as soon as you insert it in. Fortunately, Windows 10 has options to prevent the automatic playback of the CD, DVD and Blueray media and gives you more control over which action should be taken.

In order to prevent the automatic playback of the CD/DVD or Blueray media in your Windows 10 computer, you can follow these simple steps:

  1. Press the hotkey Win+X to open the Windows administrative menu. Then select Control Panel from this menu to open Windows Control Panel.Prevent Automatic DVD Playback in Windows 10
  2. In the Control Panel, type DVD in the search box. Click on the Play CDs or other media automatically under the AutoPlay category.Prevent Automatic DVD Playback in Windows 10
  3. In the AutoPlay window, scroll down until you see the DVD category. Choose an action for all different types of the DVD media. Typically, you have to choose the Take no action option to prevent automatic playback.Prevent Automatic DVD Playback in Windows 10
  4. Perform the same steps as in the step 3 above, for the CD and Blueray sections as well.

After you have taken these steps, Windows will not do anything and stay silent to the events when you insert a CD,DVD or Blueray disk into your computer. Of course, you can open the AutoPlay settings once again and change the action for the different types of optical media disks if required.
