Block Lockscreen App Notifications in Android Lollipop

Android Lollipop brings many new features for the convenience of the smartphone user. For example, it displays app notifications on the lock screen so that you can find out about the new notifications without actually having to unlock the phone. But this poses a little bit of the privacy problem as just about anyone can see these notifications without unlocking the phone. Besides you do not want the lock screen to be over populated with unwanted notifications from many of the less important apps. For both of these reasons, you may want to block lock screen app notifications for certain apps.

Here is how you can easily and quickly block lock screen app notifications in Android Lollipop:

  1. Lock the screen of your Android smartphone by pressing the power hard-button for a short time. Your screen will go blank as the device is locked. Now wait patiently for any new notifications to appear.
  2. As soon as you hear the sound from your phone for the new notifications, it will be unlocked automatically and you will be able to see the notifications on the lock screen. Long touch any of the notifications that you want to block. The notification color will change into dark grey and two new icons will appear for that notification –  a gear like notification settings icon and a information icon.Lockscreen App Notifications in Androiddeem
  3. Touch the gear like notification icon to open the notifications settings for that app. In the settings you can choose whether to set high priority for this app’s notifications or whether you want to completely block the notifications. In order to block the notifications on the lock screen for this app, toggle the switch for blocking to ON state.
  4. That’s it. From now on, you won’t see any notifications for this app on the lockscreen.

Conclusion: You can easily block the app notifications displayed on the lock screen in your Android Lollipop device. This way you can customize Android to display the notifications only for the apps that you deem important for your everyday use.
