Locate Lost Phone with Android Device Manager

Until now you had to install an anti-theft app in your Android smartphone so that you could locate it in the case of theft, or when you have lost it somewhere. Most of the anti-theft apps allow you to locate your device on the map, lock it, erase all the data on it, make it sound loud and so on. Now all these same things are available in Android itself and you no longer need any third party apps to locate your lost phone. The latest version of Google Search has some new features that allow you to locate, ring, erase and lock your phone using the Android Device Manager.

In order to enable this feature, you can just open the Google Settings in your Android smartphone, open the Security section and then enable both the Remotely locate this device and Allow remote lock and erase options. This makes sure that your device can be searched on the Google Map and erased or locked remotely.

After these options are enabled in your Android device, you have to enable the GPS location services too. Without GPS turned on, it is not able to locate your device precisely. Similarly, your device must have an active internet connection like 3G/4G or WiFi. The internet connection is needed so that Google can identify your device through your Google account.

When you want to locate the lost device, just open Android Device Manager website in any web browser and sign in using the same Google account as you are using in your lost Android device. It will immediately locate your device and show it on the map. However if either the GPS or the internet is not working on the lost device, then you won’t be able to locate the device.

In addition to locating the device on the Google Map, you will be able to ring the device (which would play a loud sound on your device for 5 minutes), lock the device (which locks your device using a new password of your choice) and erase the device to remove all your personal data.
