Enable Password to Start Device in Android Lollipop

Android Lollipop has features that make it one of the securest of all the mobile devices. The unmatched security of Android Lollipop comes from the fact that it encrypts the user data by default. You can further enhance this security by enabling many other measures like requiring a password to start the Android device. After enabling this feature, you must supply the correct password failing which the Android device will not start any of the basic services like receiving calls, receiving messages, displaying alarms or notifications etc. This feature is very useful in protecting your personal data in case your mobile phone gets stolen or is lost.

In order to enable the password for starting your Android Lollipop device, you can follow these simple steps:

1. Open the Android settings. You can open the Android settings from the apps drawer or from the home screen.
2. In the Android settings, choose Security and then proceed to set a screen lock password, PIN or patten from under the Screen Security section.
3. You cannot choose swipe lock or disable the screen security altogether. You should select any of the pattern, voice, PIN or password as the screen security.
4. You will be asked whether you want Android to require password (pin or patten) to start the device. If you choose yes, then Android will encrypt your phone and you will have to enter a password next time you power on your smart phone.

Even though Android Lollipop offers unmatched security for mobile devices and you can enable the option for Android to require a password to start the device, yet this option can make low end devices super slow at the boot because of heavy encryption.
