How to Disable Microsoft Office Upload Center

After you install Microsoft Office on your Windows PC, you might notice a small orange icon in the notification area. This icon belongs to Microsoft Office Upload Center. It helps sync your documents between your local PC and the web servers. But for many of the Office users who just use Word for creating documents for printing on their connected printers, this Upload Center perhaps has nothing to offer. If you do not really use the Office Upload Center then you can disable it and free up some of the memory resources.

Disable Office Upload Center

Here is how you can disable the Office Upload Center:

  1. Press the Win+R hotkey, type taskschd.msc and press Enter.Disable Office Upload Center
  2. In the Task Scheduler window, select Task Scheduler Library from the left pane. Select the task named similar to Microsoft Office 15 Sync Maintenance (it may be worded a little differently) from the middle pane.Disable Office Upload Center
  3. One way to identify the correct task is to double-click on it and when the task property window opens up, look under the Actions tab – it should be starting a program called MsoSync.exe.Disable Office Upload Center
  4. Click on the Disable button in the right-side pane to disable this task.
  5. Restart Windows, now you will no longer see this Office Upload Center icon in the notification area.

Microsoft Office Upload Center may not be for everyone who uses Microsoft Office. It is used to monitor the transfer process for files opened from a server or being uploaded to a server. If this is not something that you regularly use, then you can prevent it from running aimlessly in your PC by disabling it through the Task Scheduler.

  1. Trish – this is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately when I look in the TaskSchedulerLibrary the …SyncMaint… does not show. Just thought of it I am using Office 365 which has installed all components on my PC. Any assistance would be appreciated.
