Clumsy Simulates Network Faults for Administrators and Developers

A a computer programmer, sometimes I have to simulate the situations for my programs to test them under all these possible scenarios. These conditions otherwise would possibly never occur for many people. Usually programmers design their own set of utilities for this purpose, but why re-invent the wheel when there is a good enough program like Clumsy at your avail. Even though Clumsy cannot produce all possible simulations, it can create network fault conditions on your Windows PC. This makes Clumsy very useful for network administrators, program developers and students learning to troubleshoot network problems.

Clumsy is a portable program for Windows and is available both in the 32-bit and 64-bit editions. Clumsy has a straightforward interface that makes it very use to produce network problems in your PC. The first thing you have to do is set the filtering and criteria for which you want to produce the problems. You can choose from the presets given in a drop-down list, or you can specify your own.

Next, you have to select one of the functions like Lag, Drop, Throttle, Duplicate, Out of Order, Tamper etc. Each of these functions changes the way data packets are sent or received. For example, the Lag function delays the data packets by certain time duration, the Drop function blocks some of the data packets, the Throttle function reduces the transfer rate for the data packets, etc.

Clicking on the Start button will make the Clumsy utility to begin the simulation of these functions over the specified filter criteria. Once you have done using Clumsy functions, you can click on the Stop button to stop the simulation.

Conclusion: Clumsy is a simple network fault simulator application for Windows. It can produce network conditions like lagging, data duplication, packets dropping, data tampering and more.
