Over the past many years, I have tried dozens of different media players for Windows as well as other operating systems. Many years ago I was satisfied with using Windows Media Player along with K-Lite Media Codec pack. But the more I explored, the better media players I came across. For past two-three years I have settled on VideoLAN VLC Media Player, but I still keep testing the new ones now and then.
Among the newest of the media players that I have tried is Wise Video Player designed by the same people who are behind the development of other Wise software like Wise Disk Cleaner and Wise Game Booster, Wise Registry Cleaner etc. The Wise Video Player is available for all the versions Windows. You can choose to install it on your PC or you can get the portable version to keep in your USB pen drive.
The interface is very similar to that of Windows Media Player, so if you have been using Microsoft’s media player before, you will find yourself right at home. Using the overlay controls, you can play or pause the video, skip to next or previous media in the playlist, change the volume, alter the font size for the subtitles, switch to fullscreen etc.
If you right-click on the video, you get more options like capturing a screenshot, automatically resize the video window depending on the video resolution, change playback speed, adjust the brightness, contrast etc. If you have been using the portable version, then you can also choose to associate the various video file types with the Wise Video Player.
This video player is powered by the open-source FFmpeg project that enables anyone to encode or play the media of a large number of codecs and encapsulations. This is why you do not need any codec pack to be installed when you are using Wise Video Player.
Verdict: Wise Video Player is lightweight, does not consume much of the system resources and plays all the common video formats. If you are looking for a replacement for Windows Media Player, then it is a good candidate.
