How to Optimize Folder Type in Windows 7

By default, Windows automatically detects the contents of a folder and decides what kind of folder it may be - General, Music, Documents, Pictures or Videos folder. So if you copy some music files to a folder, then Windows may optimize this folder as a Music folder. But if you do not want Windows to automatically optimize your folders, then you can manually optimize a folder type for any folder in Windows 7. Here is how :

  1. Right-click on any folder that you want to optimize and choose Properties from the context menu as shown.

  2. In the Properties folder that opens, select the Customize tab. Here you can choose a folder kind from the drop-down list under the Optimise this folder for title. You can choose from General Items, Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos.

  3. Finally click on the OK button to save the settings. The settings are saved only for the selected folder. The changes are reflected immediately.
