Disable Remote Assistance in Windows Vista

Last updated on August 14, 2010

Windows Vista has a useful feature called Remote Assistance which is used to receive help from a helping person (a friend or a professional troubleshooter). They connect to your computer and use it, as if it is their own computer to troubleshoot the problems. But this feature can be misused by hackers. So if you do not need any remote assistance, it is better that you disable it. Here is how :

  1. Press the key combination Windows logo key + R, type SystemPropertiesRemote.exe in the Run dialog and press Enter key.
  2. In the System Properties window, you would see the Remote tab pre-selected. Un-check the checkbox labeled Allow Remote Assistance connections to your computer as shown,
  3. Click OK to save the settings.
