Disable Windows Update to check for drivers in Windows Vista
When you connect a device to your computer, Windows Update automatically checks over the internet for a new or matching driver. This can be annoying if you already have a drivers CD supplied by the manufacturer. You can disable this feature using this steps :
- Press the key combination Windows logo key + R, type SystemPropertiesHardware.exe in the Run dialog and press Enter key.
- In the System Properties window, you would see the Hardware tab pre-selected. Click on the button labeled Windows Update Driver Settings as shown,
- In the next window, select the option Never check for drivers when I connect a device as shown,
- Click OK to save the settings. Close the System Properties window.
