How to Disable Automatic Activation in Windows 7

When you install Windows 7 operating system on your computer without supplying any license key (CD-Key), it installs in the trial mode. In this mode you can use Windows 7 for a maximum of 30 days without actually activating Windows through Microsoft servers. But while you are using Windows in the trial period, Windows 7 keeps you bombarding with activation messages whenever you go online. This message appears in the bottom-right corner near the clock. This message will disappear when you have successfully activated Windows, but in the meanwhile you have to suffer with the nagging.

If you feel annoyed by this message you can disable it following these steps :

  1. Press Windows Key + R key combination on your keyboard, to open the Run dialog.
  2. In the run dialog, type regedit and press Enter as shown below.
  3. This would start Registry Editor. In the Registry Editor navigate to the registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation
  4. You will find two REG_DWORD type values named Manual and NotificationDisabled. Double click on one value, type 1 and press Enter. Do this to another value too, thus changing both the values to 1.
  5. Exit Registry Editor and restart your computer.

This way you can disable the activation notification for Windows 7 during the trial period. You have to activate your installed copy of Windows within 30 days (a month). If you fail to activate Windows, it will render many features of the system unusable and force you to activate Windows before using your computer. If you are not able to activate Windows at this stage using the online method, then you can call Microsoft’s customer helpline number in your region or country for further help. They can provide you alternate methods to activate Windows, and help you go through each step of the process.

You can find Microsoft’s customer care telephone numbers for all the countries in the world by visiting https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4051701/global-customer-service-phone-numbers.

  1. I can’t get it to work. Afraid I’ll mess up registry. I paid to have my computer build and bought windows 7 pro, but, they say it is not genuine and I can barely watch a movie or anything. Mad,
