When you type a URL (website address) in Internet Explorer, it is stored in the Windows Registry for easy access later. Soon you have a collection of URLs in your location bar of Internet Explorer. You can clear these typed URLs one by one from within Internet Explorer or clear them all at once using a command. Here is how :
Method 1
One way to clear these typed URLs is to delete them one by one.
- Click on the down-arrow on your Internet Explorer location bar as shown.
- Hover your mouse cursor over a URL you want to delete. You would see a red colored “delete” icon appear to the right of the URL. Click on these “delete” icon to delete that URL.
Method 2
You can also edit the Windows registry and remove all the typed URLs at once.
- Press the key combination Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog.
- In the Run dialog, type cmd and press Enter to open the Command Prompt window.
- In the command prompt window, type the following exactly as shown.
REG DELETE “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs” /va /f
- You will have to close all the running instances of Internet Explorer and start Internet Explorer again, for the changes to be visible.
