Disable Program Compatibility Assistant in Windows 7

The Program Compatibility Assistant in Windows 7 detects known compatibility issues in older programs. After you have run an older program in Windows 7, it notifies you if there is a problem and offers to fix it the next time you run the program. If you install programs often, then this can become a nuisance for you as it often shows warning messages about program compatibility. If you find the Program Compatibility Assistant to be a headache, then you can disable it. Here is how :

  1. Press the key combination Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. In the Run Dialog, type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor.

  3. In the Group Policy Editor, open User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Application Compatibility as shown.

  4. Double-click on Turn Off Program Compatibility Assistant in the right side pane. In the window that opens up, select Enable option.

  5. Click OK to save the settings.
