Disable Publisher Could Not Be Verified Message in Windows 7

Microsoft has added many security features in Windows 7. One of them is preventing to run any programs which are not digitally signed. So if you download a program which is not signed with a digital SSL certificate, then Microsoft Windows 7 would show a warning that publisher of the downloaded program could not be verified as shown.

This warning is shown when you download an unsigned program in Internet Explorer 7 or 8. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 shows a different kind of warning but the message is same. If you are tired of these warnings and clicking on the Allow button, then you can disable this type of warnings in Windows 7. Here is how :

Disable Publisher Could Not Be Verified Message

  1. Click on the Start Menu button (the blue orb in the bottom-left of your screen), type gpedit.msc and press Enter. This would open the Group Policy Editor.

  2. In the Group Policy Editor navigate to User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Attachment Manager as shown. You would find a setting named Inclusion list for moderation risk types.

  3. Double-click on this setting and choose Enabled. Then type .exe in the Options field as shown.

  4. Finally click on the OK button to save the setting.

If you are using Windows 7 Home edition or a lower edition of Windows 7, then probably you would not be able to run the Group Policy Editor. It may also be possible that your Administrator has disabled the Group Policy editor on your computer. But can still disable this publisher could not be verified warning using a simple Registry entries file (.reg) file. You can download the disable_publisher_not_verified.zip file and save it to your desktop. Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP archive to a folder and then double-click on disable_warning.reg to add the entries to your Windows registry. This would disable the publisher could not be verified warning. If at a later stage, you decide to revert the changes then you can double-click on remove_changes.reg to remove all the changes made by it.
