How to Find Your Skype User Name or ID

Skype Logo

I have been using Skype for a very long time. I had it on my computer even before the times Microsoft owned Skype. I use it to talk to some of my friends who have moved to other countries and are now living there. Skype is certainly cheaper than calling them using a standard landline phone or a mobile phone. But recently when one of my friends asked what my Skype username was, I was completely stumped as I did not know my own Skype username. For some strange reason, Skype has made it a little difficult to find out your own Skype username. But you know the login details of your Skype account, then you can easily find out your Skype username or user ID. Here is how:

  1. First of all install latest Skype client for Windows in your PC. This is important as the older versions of Skype client are designed differently.
  2. When Skype client loads, login using your email address and password for your Skype account.
  3. In the Skype client, select Skype → Profile → Edit your profile. You can also use the hotkey Ctrl + I. This will open the Edit Profile section in the Skype client.
  4. In the Edit Profile section, you will find your Skype username written under your email-address as shown below:

If you do not want to install Skype client, then there is a workaround. First of all, you have to visit the Skype website and login using your Skype credentials (email address and password). Now you can visit this webpage – https://support.skype.com/. On the webpage, you will notice your Skype user name near the top-right corner of the screen.

The Skype website method may or may not work for you. If the website method to find your forgotten Skype user name does not work, then you can always try the Skype desktop client method.
