Create Internet Explorer Shortcut on Desktop in Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with a brand new web browser called Edge which is also set to be the default web browser too, but it also contains a copy of Internet Explorer web browser. Although you might not find any shortcut ,the classic Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, it is still in the usual install location inside the “Program Files” folder. If you want to use Internet Explorer once again in Windows 10, then all you have to do is create a shortcut to the Internet Explorer on the Windows desktop and access it through that shortcut.

Here is how you can create a shortcut to Internet Explorer in Windows 10:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the Desktop and select New → Shortcut from the context-menu.
  2. Set the location of program to %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and click Next.
  3. Set the name of the shortcut to Internet Explorer and click Next.
  4. This will create the Internet Explorer shortcut on the desktop. You can right-click on this new shortcut and select Pin to taskbar to pin this shortcut to the Windows taskbar.

If the shortcut does not work, then Internet Explorer is missing from your copy of Windows installation and you might have to enable it through the Windows Features in the Windows Control Panel. Even though Internet Explorer can be used in Windows 10, you should stick to Edge browser as Microsoft is going to prefer Edge over Internet Explorer in the future for all the updates and improvements etc.
