  1. It is most certainly not “always better to use the latest and most up-to-date versions of the device drivers.” The reality is, that there is no need to ever update a device driver, unless you are having issues with the device. You said that “the newer versions come with less or no bugs.” This is not always the case. Sometimes new versions of drivers can causes problems with a device, crashes or Blue Screens of Death.

To make matters worse, sometimes Ashampoo Driver Updater installs incompatible drivers, which will cause a device to stop working until you restore the preious drivers. I know this, because I am a registered user of PC Vark’s Driver Updater which Ashampoo Driver Updater is a rebrand version of.

Sometimes, new drivers will improve performance, or fix some other issues. However, since almost always device drivers do not come with changelogs to say what exactly has been changed or fixed in the version (and even if there is, no driver update software displays these changelogs anyway).

It usually is worthwhile to update video drivers, as often new drivers will increase video performance. This is of particular use for gamers. However, usually there not much point updating drivers for other devices, unless of course you are having problems with a particular device.

Software like this, can be very useful for finding drivers for devices which do not have drivers installed (Deivce Manager will show that there are missing drivers). However, for the average user, other than that, there’s little need for these type of programs, and they can cause more problems then they fix. I use a variety of different driver update software. However, I know how to restore old drivers when problems happen.
