How to Reset Chrome Browser Back to Default Theme

Google Chrome

After years of using Firefox web browser as my main browser, when I switched to Google Chrome I realized that some things work quite differently in it. For example, unlike the Firefox web browser, you can create new user profiles and only one profile is loaded when you launch the browser. But in Chrome browser, you can switch to any user profile by clicking on the small user icon in the Chrome browser’s window.

Another thing that caught my attention is that in Chrome web browser, you can install and activate just one theme at a time. While in the Firefox web browser for desktop computers, you can install multiple themes and activate only one of them at a time. Anyway, if you have installed a theme in Google Chrome and want to revert back to the default theme then you can proceed as follows:

  1. Launch Chrome web browser, click on the vertical ellipses near the top-right corner (three dots) and choose Settings from the menu that appears.
  2. Scroll down the settings screen until you see the Appearance category.
  3. It will display the currently installed theme, shortcut to visit Chrome web store for installing more themes and right next to these options, you will see Restore to Default option. Clicking on it will instantly remove the installed theme and restore Chrome browser back to the default theme.

When you use this option to restore the default theme in Chrome, it deletes all the files for the previously downloaded themes. If you want to install those themes once again, then you will have to visit the Chrome web store website all over again, search for your favorite themes and install them in Chrome browser.
