How to Use Tor Proxy in DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser for Android

DuckDuckGo started out as an alternative search engine with emphasis on privacy. This web browser also comes with a feature using which you can enable the TOR proxy to hide your IP address and attain anonymity. Here is how you can go about using the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser along with the Tor proxy:

  1. First of all you have to install Orbot: Proxy with Tor that you can install from the Google Play store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.torproject.android&hl=en.
  2. After installing Orbot, launch it and tap on the big circular button to start the proxy. In the Orbot app, you can optionally also enable the VPN if you want but this will make enable the VPN all across the device.
  3. Now you can start the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser, tap on the menu (vertical ellipses) and select Settings from this menu.
  4. Swipe up and you will find the options for enabling Tor. You can select the checkbox labeled Enable Tor and it will instantly enable Tor for the DuckDuckGo browser. You can also check whether Orbot is working for the DuckDuckGo browser properly by tapping on Check Orbot status. This should show you a webpage that tests and displays if Orbot Tor is working properly or not. This page also displays your new IP address as seen by the web servers. You can customize the IP address by picking up a VPN server from inside the Orbot app.
