How to Enable Data Saver in the Spotify App

Spotify is digital music service that allows you to listen to millions of songs worldwide from a large number of sources. Spotify is available for all the popular platforms like Android, iOS, Mac OS, Windows and so on. It does not offer any web player but with apps available for all the operating systems, it is not really necessary or demanded by the users.

Spotify, like all the other music and video streaming services, downloads the music data from the internet using the best quality possible for your internet connection. It can automatically adjust the quality based on your internet speed so that you never run into the dreaded “buffering” problem. This all works very well if you use a WiFi connection to enjoy music on Spotify. But when you are using cellular data (mobile data) then it can quickly use up all of your mobile data if it keeps playing the music in the high quality.

Fortunately, Spotify developers are smart and already know of this problem, and therefore provide an option for saving your data. Here is how you can enable Data Saver option for Spotify app (for Android or iOS):

  1. Launch Spotify app in your smartphone.
  2. Tap on the cogwheel icon near the top-right corner.
  3. On the settings screen, tap on the Data saver button to enable it.
  4. Now you can go back to listening to music on Spotify without using too much of your data.

When the Data Saver feature for Spotify is enabled, it will switch the music quality to the lowest level and this way Spotify won’t be able to use up as much data as it would have when listening to the music at high or very high quality. When you are listening to music at very high quality, Spotify can consume 150-250 MB data every hour. But with the help of data saver, this data usage can quickly drop to 40-50 MB only.
