How to Change Subtitles Settings for Pluto TV

Pluto TV is an internet based TV that offers hundreds of TV channels for your enjoyment. It is available only in the United States but rumor is that soon it will be available in other countries as well. Pluto TV can be accessed from any web browser and it is also available as an app on multiple platforms such as Roku, iOS, Android, Amazon Fire, PlayStation and more.

If you are watching a TV show on Pluto TV late at night and do not want to disturb your spouse then you can either wear headphones or you can use subtitles and mute the volume. Depending on my mood, I use any of these methods. On Pluto TV, you can customize how subtitles look in all possible ways.

Of course, you can enable or disable the subtitles for a TV show by tapping on the small CC icon which appears on the video. In order to change the look of the subtitles, you have to tap on the TV show video and then tap on the cogwheel icon. This is supposed to show settings, but it displays only subtitles related settings.

Then a sub-menu appears from where you can change the font family, font size, font color, font opacity, background color and the background opacity of the subtitles. It does not really give you freedom to choose any font-family, but gives you some basic sets like sans serif, sans, monospace etc. Similarly, font size is not precise pixel dimensions of the fonts but a generalized term like large, medium, small etc.

If you changed the subtitles settings on your one device, it will be synced with other devices because subtitles look different on all the different types of devices. However, Pluto TV allows you to reset all the settings from the same menu from where you change the subtitles settings.

If you have never tried Pluto TV, then you can try it right now by visiting https://pluto.tv/.

  1. Yes, this drive me insane. NONE of their suggestions were even available.
While show is playing, hit the star button & all the options appear on left side of screen. FINALLY got rid of what I only need on some UK shows. FINALLY !

  2. I just recently got Pluto tv, but despite all of the advice on how to get subtitles the CC option does not work, nor are the options on the top of the screen to try and modify either 🙁 I can’t watch tv without my subtitles so does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?!

  3. Settings are not there on Pluto Tv using Roku 5. I want to change closed captioning to yellow colour. Help >

  4. ‘disable the subtitles for a TV show by tapping on the small CC icon ‘ Tapping did nothing. I got rid of the closed caption on Pluto TV by uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it!
