Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) is a built-in diagnostic tool in Microsoft Windows operating system. It is internally used by the Windows to evaluates the performance capabilities of a computer. It was first introduced with Windows Vista and available in subsequent versions of Windows. WinSAT provides a detailed analysis of a system’s hardware components, including the CPU, memory, graphics, and storage.
This evaluation helps users understand how well their system can handle various tasks and applications. WinSAT measures the performance and capabilities of these components and assigns a score, which is part of the Windows Experience Index (WEI). The WEI score ranges from 1.0 to 9.9, with higher scores indicating better performance and capability.
However, Windows Experience Index (WEI) was discarded in newer versions of Windows for several reasons. These reasons were primarily related to its relevance, accuracy, and the evolving nature of computer hardware and software. It is no longer available on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
If you want to have some sort of WEI on your Windows PC, then you can try WinSatUi. It is an open-source tool that mimics the WinSat tool which was available in the earlier versions of Windows. Unlike the original Microsoft’s WinSAT tool, WinSatUi is not a command line interface tool. It has a graphical user interface which looks similar to the WEI user interface of Windows 8.1.
After launching WinSatUi, you will notice the Windows version and build number. It will also show your Windows computer’s model on the top. You can click on the “Start Test” button to make it assess your PC hardware. Basically it launches “WinSat.exe” and waits for it to finish. After some time, you will see the index scores for various things on your PC.
It gives scores for the processor, RAM, graphics, game graphics, and the primary disk. These values are automatically put in the XML file on the system which can also be used by Windows or other programs. We can also upload the screenshot of these scores to the Imgur photo sharing site.
