Usually, when we want to move a window, all we have to do is click on its titlebar, hold it and drag it anywhere we want on the screen. In case, we want to move it without using the mouse, we first have to open its system menu, select “Move” from there and then move it using the arrow keys. But if you do not wish to use any of these methods, or if the window lacks a titlebar, then you can use DragWin.
DragWin is a small open-source portable program for Windows that allows the users to move any window without using any modifier keys like Alt or Ctrl. Once DragWin is running, we can right-click in the center of any window, hold it and drag it to any location on the screen.
It does not affect the right-click features of the mouse in any way. You can continue to use the right-click just as you would otherwise.
Beyond just moving windows, DragWin offers other useful features:
- Window resizing: You can resize windows the same way you move them – right-click and drag. No need to search for the edges of the window to resize.
- Scrolling across displays: If you use multiple monitors, DragWin allows you to scroll between displays using the middle mouse button. This feature makes navigation across a multi-screen setup much easier.
- Change window opacity: By holding down the Alt key, you can adjust a window’s transparency. This is useful if you want to keep an eye on multiple windows at once or make certain applications more discreet.
- Scroll through background windows: DragWin lets you scroll through windows that are behind the one you’re working on. This feature helps you stay productive without needing to switch windows constantly.
- Virtual desktop switching: With a simple gesture from the top corners of your screen, you can scroll between virtual desktops. This is perfect for users who manage multiple workspaces.
All these features can be enabled or disabled from its notification area icon. We can right-click on its icon and select these features to be toggled on or off. We can also make it auto-start with Windows.
Conclusion: DragWin is an excellent tool for anyone looking to simplify and speed up window management. Whether you’re resizing, scrolling, or navigating through multiple monitors and virtual desktops, DragWin makes the process intuitive and efficient.
