Make Google Chrome ask where to download file

Google Chrome is a slim, fast and secure browser. But when you download a file using Google Chrome, it does not prompt you and starts downloading the file. You can change this default behavior and make Google Chrome ask for a folder to save the file in using the following procedure :

  1. Run Google Chrome. On the right side, you would see a settings icon. Click on it and select Options as shown :

    Google Chrome Save Location

  2. In the Options window, select the Under the hood tab. Scroll down a little and you would see options to set default download folder. Below this would be a checkbox labeled Ask where to save each file before downloading. Check this checkbox and save the settings.

    Google Chrome Save Location

Now whenever you download a file Google Chrome would ask you where to save the file.
