Everything is cool about Google+ except possibly for one thing, they notify you each and every time someone mentions you in their stream post. If you have lots of people in your circles, then it can become a serious problem – your email account would be bombarded with Google+ notifications. If you have enabled SMS notifications, then your mobile phone would receive huge number of text messages from Google+. If you do not like so many emails or SMS coming from Google+ when someone mentions you in their post, then you can disable Google+ notifications. Here is how :
- Make sure you are logged in to your Google+ account in your web browser. If you are not logged in, then visit https://plus.google.com/ and log in to your Google+ account.
- Once you are logged in, visit https://plus.google.com/settings/plus to open the Google+ settings page for your Google account.
- If you have set a phone number to your Google+ profile, you would see your phone number listed there. Under your phone number, choose Don’t notify me to disable all notification sent through SMS. Then scroll further down and under Receive Notifications uncheck all the email notifications for Posts and mentions of my name sub-category. This would instantly disable Google+ email notification when someone mentions you in their post. The settings are saved automatically.
- That’s it. Now you can use your Google+ account like normally you do, only you would not be bugged by a flood of Google+ notifications in your email inbox or your mobile phone. If you later miss that you are not being notified, then you can always enable the Google+ notifications using the same steps.
