Through the Control Panel in Windows, you can change the settings of various things in the operating system. But most of the users do not find many settings for the most used part of Windows – the Windows taskbar. The 7+ Taskbar Tweaker allows you to configure various aspects of the Windows taskbar. The installation version sets it to run automatically at every Windows logon while the portable edition has to be run manually whenever you want to run it. The settings are divided in three categories – Taskbar items, Grouping & combining and other settings. In the Taskbar items, you can change the settings for what happens when you left-click, right-click or middle-click on an item in the taskbar. You can also change the options for what happens when you hover your mouse cursor over an item in the taskbar or drop something onto the taskbar. There are settings for thumbnails and pinned items too.
In the Grouping & combining section, you can set the options of how different items are grouped or disable the grouping altogether. You can set options for combining and decombining the taskbar icons. You can choose what happens when you left-click on a combined item.
It also comes with a utility called Taskbar Inspector. This utility can be used to reorder and rearrange the items in the Windows taskbar. This tool works by injecting its instructions in the Windows taskbar’s process memory. In my opinion, this tool should be used only by intermediate or advanced Windows users.
The 7+ Taskbar Tweaker can be used to tweak the Windows taskbar for both Windows 7 and Windows 8. It is a nifty tool that can be used by advanced users and beginners alike. The changes it makes are not stored permanently in the Windows registry or other places. The changes or tweaks stop working as soon as you close down the application. So if you want to remove all the tweaks, you can just stop using it.
