Everyone has something to hide in their computer. The grown ups do not want kids to touch their important documents while the teenagers have their own stuff to hide from their parents. If you too have something to hide on your computer, then you can use the free Wise Folder Hider to hide your folders, files and drives.
Here are some of the notable features of Wise Folder Hider:
- Can hide your files, folders and all contents from USB disk drives.
- Drag-n-drop support, so you can drop files or folders on the Wise Folder Hider window to hide them.
- Double password protection for better security.
- Supports Windows File Explorer context-menu integration.
- Supports multiple language user interface.
Wise Folder Hider is a free file, folder or drive hiding tool. You can use it to hide files and folders on local partitions or removable devices. According to the Wise Folder Hider web site, the data inside the hidden folders cannot be accessed by other programs or on other operating systems such as DOS (which nobody uses today). The only way to access or unhide these data is to enter the valid password. However, this application is designed for home use only but not recommended for commercial settings which require stricter security.
You can download Wise Folder Hider from its website. After installation, you can run the Wise Folder Hider from its desktop shortcut. When you run it for the first time, it would ask you for setting a login password. This is necessary to set so that only you can use the Wise Folder Hider. This password would be asked each time you run Wise Folder Hider.
The main interface is very simple. Just click on the Hide File, Hide Folder or Hide USB Drive buttons in the toolbar and select the target files, folders or USB drives. As soon as you select them, they would disappear from Windows Explorer and would be listed in Wise Folder Hider window. If you select a USB drive to hide, all the files and folders inside it disappear but the USB drive is still visible in Windows Explorer.
For further protection, you can set password for individual items in the list. To do so, click on the downward arrow next to the Open button and select Set Password. This would turn the Lock status to Yes for that item. To unhide an item, you can select Unhide from the Open button menu. To open a file without unhiding it, you can click on the Open button directly.
Although Wise Folder Hider claims to support drag and drop feature, we could not drop any files on its window. Apparently, Wise Folder Hider supports this feature only when UAC is disabled in Windows Vista/7/8. It is not recommended that you turn off UAC (user account control) for this simple feature.
