Recently Google has made a new change in the Google+ social networking service. Now you can send email messages to all the people in your Google+ circles connections without having to know their email address. This also means that other people would also send you email messages via your Google+ profile. The email messages arrive in your Gmail account. By default anyone can send you email messages through your Google+ profile page. This is certainly not very good, if you have many people in your Google+ circles that you do not know actually in the real life. Fortunately, there is a setting in the Gmail options, that allows you to control who can send you email messages through your Google+ profile.
You can follow these instructions to customize the receiving of email through your Google+ profile.
- In your favorite web browser, open the Gmail website (http://mail.google.com/) and enter your credentials to log in.
- Click on the gear like icon near the top-right corner on the Gmail website, and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- On the Gmail settings webpage, select the General section. Scroll down the webpage containing the long list of options until you find the option Email via Google+. You can select who can send you email messages – anyone on Google+, extended circles, circles or no one.
- After selecting an option of your choice, scroll down to the bottom of the webpage. Click on the Save Changes button to save your Gmail settings.
Although this new feature of sending email messages via the Google+ profile makes it easy to connect to like minded people or businesses, but it can also be misused by some of the people. If you think that you do not want to receive emails from anyone or want to receive emails only from certain circles, then you can do so by changing a few settings in your Gmail account.
