By default the Android screen stays on only for 30 seconds if you leave your smartphone untouched. It is sometimes very annoying when your Android device’s screen is automatically turned off after 30 seconds, especially when you are reading something on it. For example, you open a news website, find an interesting news article and start reading it – but while you are in the middle of the news article, your phone’s screen turns off! And every time it turns off, you have to press the power button and then unlock the screen to go back and do whatever you were doing before.
A simple workaround to this problem is to increase the time your Android device’s screen stays turned on. The default value is usually 30 seconds. But you can increase this screen on time from anything to one minute to thirty minutes. Some models of the Android devices may have a little variation of the time limit allowed. In any case, you have to follow these steps to increase the screen on time in your Android smartphone:
- First of all you have to open the settings in Android. There are multiple ways to open the settings screen. You can use the menu key on the home screen and then select the System Settings from the menu that appears. You can also touch the Settings icon in the all apps gallery to open the system settings.
- On the settings screen, you have to tap on Display option listed under the Device category.
- On the Display screen, you would find all the settings related to your smartphone’s screen. Here you have to select the Sleep option from the list of settings. Under the Sleep, you can also see the current inactivity time limit after which the screen is switched off automatically.
- You will see a list of available inactivity time out options from 15 seconds to 30 minutes. You can select a time limit by selecting any of these options. As soon as you select any one of these, the settings are applied.
After increasing the screen on time for your Android phone, you can enjoy reading on it without having to worry about your screen getting switched off every so often. But you should not increase the time to a long period, as this will drain your Android device’s battery faster.
