How to Enable “Take A Break” Feature in Youtube App

Youtube and Netflix have completely replaced the traditional cable TV for millions of people worldwide. If you don’t believe me then just ask the youngsters in schools and colleges. They haven’t watched anything on cable TV for years. The only reason they haven’t thrown their TV sets outside is because it works great with their game consoles and of course Netflix and Youtube can be streamed on to their large screen TV. But watching so much Youtube continuously is not healthy for the eyes. Google has realized this and this is why they have added a new feature “Take a break” in the new version of the Youtube app for Android and iOS.

This feature is available in the Youtube app version 13.18.54 and above. So you have to wait before your device receives the update and your Youtube app will also get the new “Take a break” feature. But this feature is disabled by default and you can enable it in the following manner:

  1. Launch Youtube app in your smartphone. Tap on the user icon and then select Settings.
  2. On the settings screen, select General.
  3. Select Remind me to take a break.Youtube Take a Break
  4. Now choose a time interval as the reminder frequency for alerting you to take a break. You can choose from 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 180 minutes.

So if you choose 15 minutes as the reminder frequency, Youtube will show you a reminder after you were busy watching some video or movie on Youtube after every 15 minutes. You should pause the video, and look away from the screen, close your eyes or just take a walk outside in the fresh air. The reminder is also displayed even when you are streaming the movie on a connected TV screen. Obviously, you can also disable the reminder by choosing Never in the settings.
