Auto-Install New Plugins, Brushes and Patterns in Photoshop and GIMP with PGEI

There was a time when Adobe Photoshop was the only high quality image editing software with tons of features. The software became so popular in 90s that the word Photoshop made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary as a verb – to change a picture or photograph using computer. There were several movies and TV shows where it was regularly featured. For example, in an episode of Friends sitcom they used Photoshop to alter someone’s picture resulting in tons of laughs.

Today Adobe Photoshop has an open-source alternative called GIMP. It works as good as Photoshop and is available on many different platforms. No matter which graphics editing program you are using, you can enhance its features and add more tools using some extensions. And if you want to save your precious time, you can use the free Photoshop GIMP Extensions Installer (PGEI) to automatically download and install selected extensions, brushes or patterns in both Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.

Photoshop GIMP Extensions Installer

PGEI is designed using Java and you must have JRE installed on your system before you can even launch it. It supports many different versions of both Photoshop and GIMP. You can choose a version from the list and it will display all the available extensions for that version of GIMP or Photoshop. Currently it supports GIMP versions 2.8, 2.10, 2.11 and Photoshop versions 2017, 2018, 2019.

From the list of available extensions, you can select one of the extensions that you want to install and then click on the “Install” button. These installed extensions will be available the next time you launch Photoshop or GIMP. In a similar manner, you can use PGEI to uninstall these previously installed extensions. If you an extension downloaded from somewhere on the internet, then you can use PGEI to install that extension too.
