File Lock PEA is a file encryption software designed using Java and can be used on Linux, Mac and Windows platforms. The software does not come with a portable JRE package and you have to install JRE on your system before you can use it to encrypt your files.
File Lock PEA is ideal when you want to decrypt a group of files in order to use them and then encrypt them back when you are done with them. You have to add a number of files or folders to File Lock PEA which are encrypted as soon as you close the File Lock PEA user interface.
You begin by initializing a new file that keeps a list of all the encrypted files by pulling File → Initialize New from the menubar. It displays the strength of the password used by you and encourages you to use a much stronger password.
Now all you have to do is add the files or folders that you wish to encrypt. As soon as you close the File Lock PEA user interface, all of these files get encrypted. For more options about what happens when you exit File Lock PEA, you can choose them from the menu File → close and encrypt selected files or File → close and leave all files unencrypted.
Next time you launch File Lock PEA, you will have to supply the password to decrypt the files in the list. After decrypting the files, you can work with them and carry out any kind of file operations. Finally, you can exit File Lock PEA and those files are once again encrypted.
File Lock PEA is great for quick encryption and decryption of a set of files in Windows, Mac or Linux. It supports cloud storage and can encrypt files over the cloud storage accounts.
