Unreal Commander is a free file manager for Windows. It is designed to have the same two-pane user interface that was once popularized by the likes of Norton Commander. It has more features than the plain Windows File Explorer that comes preinstalled with Windows. In fact, you can replace Windows File Explorer with Unreal Commander without losing any features. This is because Unreal Commander offers all the features provided by File Explorer and offers extra features too.
Unreal Commander has many extensions that can be used to add even more features. In addition to the classic functions such as file searching, creation of new files/folders, moving, copying and deleting files. Actually it makes file operations much easy for everyone. This is because it features a two-pane interface. You can open two folders in these two panes and then drag-n-drop to copy or move files.
Unreal Commander has many useful features such as the support for many archive file types. You can extract files from these archives as well as pack files into different archive file types. Similarly, it has a built-in FTP client. Using the FTP feature, you can open an FTP location in one of the panes and use drag-n-drop to upload or download files from the FTP server.
Another useful feature of Unreal Commander is WIPE. It is a secure erasing feature using which you can delete files securely by overwriting them and then deleting. File deleted this way cannot be recovered even by data recovery software.
Unreal Command is free but it still wants you to register for a license key. This can be done easily from the menubar of the program. This license key is valid for 6 months after which you have to re-apply for the free license key.
