Some of the media files allow for adding of additional identifying information to them in form of tags. For example, MP3 audio files have ID3 tags that contains all the information about the tracks/music/song inside such as the album, artist, genre, year of release and more. For the video files, we have similar meta tags and usually these tags are used for video file formats such as MP4, M4V, MKV, WMV and MOV. With the help of MetaX, we can add such tags to any of the video files in the aforementioned formats.
MetaX is an advanced tool for tagging video files on your computer. It supports both the manual tagging and auto-tagging. For the latter we need the use of the internet to fetch information about a certain video. We begin by opening the videos. It supports opening of video files having formats MP4, MKV, WMV, M4V, MOV, AVI and ASF.
We have to specify what kind of video is it – a movie, a music video, a TV show etc. We can then add more information such as the year of release, the title, artists, rating, genre, short description, long description etc. We can also add a thumbnail image to the video meta tag. If it is a TV show related video, then we can also add the season and episode numbers to the tag.
If you do not want to bother with filling everything yourself then Metax as the Auto-Tag feature for you. It can be selected from the toolbar. All you have to specify is a little information about the video such as movie title or TV show episode number and it will fetch rest of the information automatically from the internet. Then you can just save the information as meta tag inside the video file.
MetaX also has a built-in Movie Library, where we can create a database of all our movies. Each created database can be sorted, printed and searched if necessary. This is a particularly useful option for collectors of movies or TV series. MetaX is not a freeware and is available in trial version which works only for five files.
