Truecaller is a very popular called ID app for Android smartphones. We can use this app to find out who is actually calling our mobile number. It displays an alert on your phone’s screen as soon as someone calls you. It is very useful to avoid telemarketers, cold-callers, scammers and spam.
It does not really use any official database of phone numbers. Rather it depends on the Truecaller users to share their details. When you install Truecaller app on your mobile phone, you have to enter your full name and other details. These details are then used to identify you when you call someone. Similarly, it identifies other people who call you.
If you do not want your mobile number to be listed in the Truecaller database anymore, then you can request them to delist your number in the following manner:
- First of all launch Truecaller app on your mobile phone. Open settings section of Truecaller app, tap on the Privacy Center and then tap on Deactivate. This will deactivate Truecaller from your mobile phone for that mobile number. This is a necessary requirement for unlisting your mobile number. You can uninstall Truecaller app after this.
- Once you have deactivated your Truecaller account for the mobile number that you want to be unlisted, you can visit https://www.truecaller.com/unlisting in your web browser.
- Enter your mobile number, enter captcha code and proceed to clicking on the Unlist Phone Number button. You will see a message that the number will be unlisted in next 24 hours.
This is all you have to do. You can check your unlisted number on Truecaller website after 2-3 days and see if it is still listed. If your number is tagged by thousands of people as scam or spam, then they might not remove the number in only 24 hours. If you install Truecaller app anytime in the future and add the same number, it will again be listed in the Truecaller database.
