When you use a Windows computer for sometime, especially when browsing websites, a lot of temporary and garbage files get accumulated on the hard disk. These junk files take up a lot of your hard disk space. These obsolete and unwanted files can amount to many gigabytes of your valuable hard disk space. You can use free and open-source tool called BleachBit to clean up your computer and free hard disk space in Windows.

Now you can chat online with your Facebook friends but you have to open Facebook inside a web browser to do all the chatting. Some of us wish that there was a desktop client similar to MSN, Yahoo! or AIM instant messengers. If you want to chat online without opening Facebook inside a web browser, then you might like fTalk. fTalk is a Windows desktop application using which you can chat with your Facebook friends right from the Windows desktop.

Sometimes when you copy files from one storage device to another or download them from the internet, they might get corrupted owing to many reasons like incomplete downloads, faulty data cable or erratic power supply unit in your computer. ISO image files are the true archive disk image of an optical media like CD, DVD or BlueRay disk. If you are using Windows, then you do not have many inbuilt options of handling the ISO files. Windows 7 allows only to burn an ISO disk image to a blank CD, DVD or BRD. But now you can create, convert, extract and mount any ISO disk image using the free ISO Toolkit.

When you run your computer for a long time, the CPU (processor chip) on the motherboard starts to heat up. If you continue to use your computer in a hot environment, then it would slow down your computer overtime. What you can do is monitor your CPU chip for its temperature and if its very hot, then make arrangements for cooling down your computer working area. You can monitor your CPU temperature using the free Real Temp program.

Windows has an inbuilt feature using which you can safely remove a removable drive (for example, a USB disk drive). But this feature is pretty much limited in nature. It does not clean the MRU and registry entries created while you ran programs off the removable drive. You have to manually remove these entries or use a program like CCleaner to clean them. Now you can use freeware ProEject program to safely dismount removable drives and clean the left over entries.

Usually, it is the Windows operating system which determines the modified, accessed or created dates of a file. There is no way in Windows to manually manipulate these dates if you want. This can be a problem if you want to adjust these dates. Although you cannot do it using any in-built Windows utility, but there is a free program called SKTimeStamp which lets you modify these dates.
